Hello, my name is Hannah. I live in a tall house near a small park in the West Midlands, England, with my hard working husband and baby boy. We have a fairly simple lifestyle. We don’t earn much but we don’t buy much either. We appreciate good company, sunshine, home-cooked meals and frequent cups of tea. It’s all pretty hyggeligt, hence the title of my blog.
Here is my philosophy:
From what I have experienced of life so far, the pursuit of happiness is a worthy goal to have. This pursuit does not follow a path of money or fame or number of friends; this pursuit is best enjoyed in simplicity, with loved ones.
The pursuit of happiness is a road made through effort. Just as death gives life meaning, putting in effort creates gratitude for what you have. So put in the effort; effort to master new skills and to conquer our own emotions, effort to create, to grow plants, raise children, develop our minds, and strengthen our bodies. Put some effort into your life and it will pay you back.
The pursuit of happiness is not something you achieve alone, and knowing that you add to other people’s journeys is important.
“You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. What you do makes a difference, and you have to decide what kind of difference you want to make.”
Jane Goodall
Have compassion. You are never too important to be nice to people. Believe in the innate goodness in people, and in yourself.
A lot of this may sound trite, cliched or insincere. But I have found all of it to be true and all of this has helped me on my own journey so far. It’s easy to say ‘just forgive’ or ‘just be kind to yourself’, and I know from personal experience that negative patterns are hard to break. Each person needs their own ‘aha moment’. Mine usually come from books, so I am writing some book reviews to share with you as well.
I firmly believe that you can control your own mind (any mental diagnoses aside) and with practice, you can choose the sort of person you want to be, and be happy.
